But God…
Last Sunday we opened to Ephesians 2 but surprise surprise we only got through the first 3 verses. Here’s a recap if you recall and an update if you missed…
In Ephesians 2:1-3 we find the Spirit of God convicting us of our own sinfulness. We are reminded what we once were, what we sometimes still are, and what we would be without the Spirit of God leading us. We are reminded that if we are not in fellowship with God, the world and the ways of world will suck us back into it’s way.
In verse 1 Paul reminds us that we are dead men walking. With no spiritual life in us we can not know spiritual life. We need a Savior to make us alive, and to have life more abundant. Jesus called the legalistic Pharisees white washed tombs, because they had the appearance that everything is righteous but inside they are as dead.
You and I may have given our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, but we need God’s grace daily. We could likely admit that there are times we wonder away from Calvary and we cling to a religious appearance as righteous but inside we are as dead.
In verse 2 Paul reminds us that we are really no different than the ungodly who are fighting to rule the world today, in that we too have walked with the world by the power of Satan’s temptations, and we too were children of disobedience.
You and I may have given our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, but we need to be in the Word daily. We could likely admit that there are times we can relate to the ungodly and could easily live defeated remorseful lives.
In verse 3 Paul reminds us that we too have walked by the lust of the flesh with unclean intentions, and born to inherit the judgement of those who reject God.
You and I may have given our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, but we need to come to Jesus daily. We could likely admit that there are times we are more concerned with immediate satisfaction and give-in to walking by sight.
Ephesians 2:1-3 left us with a bit of a bleak outlook, a bit of discouragement, except the chapter doesn’t end there. Next week we will pick up with verse 4 but before leaving last Sunday we took a peak at what’s ahead.
In verse 4 Paul reminds us, “But God…” and that is where we ended last Sunday.
Whatever your sin… “But God…”
Whatever your failure… “But God…”
Whatever your regret… “But God…”
Whatever your trial…“But God…”

I say, Praise the Lord! I can’t wait now until next Sunday so we will continue with Paul’s reminder to us “But God…” I’m getting excited just thinking about how endless this promise is for us “But God…”
