Good Friday has always been the most meaningful to me, of the Holy week days from the triumphal entry to Easter. Mostly because growing up in my Catholic home, my mother insisted on a practice of silence in our house between 12:00 noon and 3:00 PM on Good Friday.

Yes, silence. In our home on Good Friday for those 3 hours we were committed to not speaking unless it was an emergency (including no radio and no TV), otherwise our silence was a reminder that our Lord hung on the cross during this time.

All earth and its humanity hung in the balance between eternal damnation or eternal life. Thankfully, this side of Resurrection Sunday, we know that our Lord arose from the tomb having successfully completed His mission of redeeming you and I.

Anti-Christian Society…

For me, Good Friday may be the most meaningful of the Holy Week days, year after year, but in 2016 I have found Matthew 27:23 to stand-out from the crucifixion story as having a very pertinent application for biblical Christians in an anti-Christian society.

Pilate appears to be trying to keep a balance between loyalty to Rome and pacification of the Jews. Matthew 27:23 records this brief exchange: “And he said, ‘Why, what evil has he done?’ But they shouted all the more, ‘Let him be crucified!’ (ESV)”

If you, like me, are feeling that forces of evil are captivating men’s hearts and words, and media and politicians are publicly arguing non-sensible positions, then please hear the words shouted that day, “Let him be crucified!”

Pilate asks of Jesus, “Why, what evil has he done?” The evil leaders and their demon crazed crowd doesn’t dare to answer the question logically, but instead emotionally by shouting back, “Let him be crucified!”

It’s the same today as we find common sense absent in the public arguments from those who seek to destroy the very female-male defining image of God, those who seek to enforce liberty banishing political agendas, those who seek lawlessness above law enforcement lives, and those who seek to implement their sharia religion with it’s rule of death.

Biblical Christians ask, “Why, what benefit are these agendas to us?” Like the leaders and crowd before Pilate, they don’t respond logically, but they emotionally shout back haters, bigots, racists, Islamophobe’s, un-American, behind-the-times – they demonically shout back to you and I “Let, him be crucified!”

Perhaps this year, our joy in the Easter season is knowing that the evil leaders and demon crazed crowds of 2016 see biblical Christianity as the body of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Whatever our future holds we will walk with our Lord through the portals of His tomb, His resurrection, and His heaven, because you and I both know “Let, him be crucified!” is not the end of the story.
