Moving Along in Matthew
At CrossHope Chapel, we are moving along in our Bible study through the Gospel of Matthew and will complete this teaching series in about five weeks.
Where are we going after Matthew?
Well, when we first started the Matthew series I was thinking about following it up with a series through Acts or Hebrews or 1&2 Timothy or Galatians, but in recent weeks I have actually been thinking about going to the book of Revelation.
Please let me know what you think about going through the book of Revelation. We’ll likely talk about it this coming Sunday, too.
Last Sunday, August 22nd, we looked at chapter 23 of Matthew and saw how Jesus spoke to the false religious leaders. It seems that legalism and disingenuous religious leaders brings out a great deal of concern for our Lord.
As we talked about it on Sunday, the Pharisees were the teachers of the law with the purpose of teaching the people, including preparing the way for the Messiah, but instead they fed themselves and their own egos. The Pharisees burdened the very people they should have had compassion for with legalistic requirements meant to weigh them down.
We also talked about how the religious leaders then were not much different than religious leaders today. Some religious leaders today have a similar penchant when it comes to making a religion to their own works rather than to the glory of God’s grace.
Next Sunday, August 29th, we will turn over to the 24th chapter of Matthew and discuss Jesus’ teaching to the disciples on the signs of the end.
See you then.
