A funny thing happened after Hurricane Katrina blew away the rental economy along the Alabama Gulf Coast, rental agents began charging guests a “wedding fee.”
Even though it’s been 13 years since Katrina, I still get calls from brides saying they move the wedding ceremony to a public beach access area because the rental agent of the condo or beach house is wanting to charge an additional $100 dollar or more wedding fee.
Here’s the problem…some rental agents either don’t understand or don’t care that your wedding is not a big party that is going to attract 100 guests cracking beer bottles against the wall after you all burn the arch and toss the chairs across their beach.
All I can advise is to simply explain that it’s a few people walking out unto the beach for 15 minutes and then back into the condo or beach house. Let them know that you wedding activity is really no different than the reminder of your stay at their property, with the exception that a minister is going to stop by for a visit, but even he’ll be gone in 30 minutes.
