The UN vs God
The United Nation’s security council, solely by the help of Barrack Obama, has decisively set the nations of the world against God’s word and the people of Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s response states “The resolution that was adopted yesterday at the United Nations is distorted and shameful but we will overcome it. The resolution determines that the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem is ‘occupied territory’. This is delusional.
The resolution determines that the Western Wall is ‘occupied territory’. This too is delusional. There is nothing more absurd than calling the Western Wall and the Jewish Quarter occupied territory. There is also an attempt here, which will not succeed, to impose permanent settlement terms on Israel. You might recall that the last one who tried to do this was Carter, an extremely hostile president to Israel, and who just recently said that Hamas is not a terrorist organization. Carter passed sweeping decisions against us at the UN of a similar kind, and this was also unsuccessful. We opposed this and nothing happened.
All American presidents since Carter upheld the American commitment not to try to dictate permanent settlement terms to Israel at the Security Council. And yesterday, in complete contradiction of this commitment, including an explicit commitment by President Obama himself in 2011, the Obama administration carried out a shameful anti-Israel ploy at the UN.
I would like to tell you that the resolution that was adopted, not only doesn’t bring peace closer, it drives it further away. It hurts justice; it hurts the truth. Think about this absurdity, half a million human beings are being slaughtered in Syria. Tens of thousands are being butchered in Sudan. The entire Middle East is going up in flames and the Obama administration and the Security Council choose to gang up on the only democracy in the Middle East – the State of Israel. What a disgrace.”
It appears the stage is now set for nations to claim this security council resolution as a basis to bring military action against the nation of Israel. If you remember, it was because of a security council resolution that the United States and a coalition of nations legally invaded Iraq under the threat of weapons of mass destruction.
Sadly, the Islamist, communist, and opportunist nations in that region have had their aggressive eyes set against God’s land for a long time, and the United Nations has now provided them a legal basis for military actions through this unanimous resolution.
Satan hates all things from God, and since he can’t get to God he goes to God’s people. Jesus warned us that while He came to bring life, Satan comes only to “steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10) and it is only because of this warning that we have an explanation for the satanic actions of the United Nations.
In this resolution, the United Nations has set their decision squarely, willingly, and intentionally against the word of God Himself…
In Genesis 12:7 God said “To your offspring I will give this land” and again in Genesis 15:18 He said “To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates.”
After the death of Moses, God reaffirmed His covenant with Joshua when He said “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory” Joshua 1:3-4 (ESV).
Satan opposes God and all that is good, true, and righteous, so is it any wonder that a tiny nation that is being pressed on every side by hate and evil is the object of the wicked’s blame?
The good news is that in Joshua 1 God promises Israel “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them” Joshua 1:5-6 (ESV).
In Genesis God said “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” Genesis 12:2-3 (ESV).
Deuteronomy 7:7-8 also reminds us of God’s covenant when He said “It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers” (ESV).
It will be interesting as we go into 2017 with such a world stage before us. One reason the United States has been so blessed is because God said “I will bless those who bless you” (Genesis 12:3) and while we wait for American leaders that will once again support Israel, let us watch and pray.
