Be Kind
“Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.” — Job 6:14 NIV
I am convinced that when we get to Heaven we are going to meet people we never knew who are going to thank us for showing them kindness at some point during their earthly lives. I imagine the kindness shown may be simply holding the door for their easier entrance into the building or motioning for their exit from a parking lot to pull in front of you to avoid the traffic or maybe even a greeting of a brief smile crossing paths on the grocery aisle.
I don’t have any statistics or researched evidence, but it seems too many people go through their lives wondering if anyone notices them or even cares that they exist. Society has become a crowd of lonely people in private existence who yearn to be valued by someone’s kindness.
To be kind to others you have to notice others and that means that we sometimes have to stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking of others. It means putting yourself in their shoes. Asking yourself how you would like it if that was you. It means doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. So, if there is anything you can be today, be kind.
