The Asbury Revival: No Preachers?

Steve Durkac Posted on February 20, 2023 by Steve DurkacFebruary 21, 2023

Today is day 12 of students gathering in their chapel at Asbury University and personal prayer and worship is continuing strong. The public has begun making trips to visit for themselves, traveling from out-of-state, and local government has had to address the overwhelming crowds swallowing up the small city that Asbury is in. I have found this revival amazingly refreshing because it is absent of hype, persuasion, and leaders who one would expect to be … Continue reading →

The Name of God

Steve Durkac Posted on February 9, 2023 by Steve DurkacMarch 8, 2023

This post is not about using an exact name or being proper in pronouncing the name or even dropping vowels in order to give respect to the name of God. This post is about the character of God as we call upon His name through prayer. Psalm 9:10 states, “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”  The verse could well … Continue reading →

Heavenly Father

Steve Durkac Posted on February 7, 2023 by Steve DurkacMarch 8, 2023

We must realize that we are not praying to a father like the one we have known on this earth. We do not pray to an earthly father, but to our heavenly Father. Jesus taught us to pray “Our Father which art in heaven” (Matthew 6:9). I learned later in life that my biological father abandoned my biological mother just after I was conceived. Actually, there is evidence to suggest that there was no consensual arrangement, … Continue reading →

How to Pray When Dying

Steve Durkac Posted on November 10, 2022 by Steve DurkacNovember 28, 2022

During the height of the COVID pandemic I got a text message from a patient who was dying. She was about 30 days into an isolation stay and the medical team had given up hope of being able to do anything to help. The patient was a nurse and we texted during her hospitalization, most recently her texts were an honest reflection on dying. On this one particular day, her text was simply, How should … Continue reading →

Prayer Therapy: How to Pray for Problems

Steve Durkac Posted on February 6, 2018 by Steve DurkacMarch 29, 2023

In 1994 I had assumed the pastorate of a church where I had the opportunity to sit down with the outgoing pastor to discuss various issues of that congregation. As I was sitting with him in his office talking, he handed me his keys and said, “Oh, I almost forgot, each Wednesday at 11:00 AM you have a counseling session, here in this office, with Mrs. Redford.” Not her real name, but I did ask, … Continue reading →

In Jesus’ Name

Steve Durkac Posted on November 28, 2017 by Steve DurkacNovember 28, 2017

We commonly conclude our prayers by saying “In Jesus’ Name” and rightly so. When you say, “Lord, in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen” you are sharing in His power by claiming His character, life, atonement, and righteousness – not yours! When you say, “In Jesus’ Name,” you are saying… “Lord, I am asking you to answer and fulfill this prayer request because of the character, sacrifice, and merits of your Son and my … Continue reading →

Orlando Terrorism

Steve Durkac Posted on June 13, 2016 by Steve DurkacJune 13, 2016

My prayer for the families of the Orlando terror victims and those who are struggling with God regarding this evil attack is Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (ESV). As a church family we prayed and talked about this heartbreaking attack last Sunday at CrossHope Chapel, but I want to share with you two things that came to my mind after hearing of it, in hopes that it may help you process … Continue reading →

Don’t settle for for a mediocre prayer life. If you will commit to praying with the very promises of God in your prayers, you will experience a breakthrough that will move heaven to answer in a fulfilling way. Here is a three point guide for praying with God’s Bible promises, using the letters ABC… Ask – Begin by actually asking God for the solution, to help, to bring about His glory in the situation or need of … Continue reading →
