The Post-Coronavirus Church

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on March 29, 2020 by Steve DurkacMarch 29, 2020avatar

The coronavirus is challenging many of the ways we do life in America. Some businesses are discovering that employees can work from home, families are adjusting to actually spending more time together, and church members are realizing that a weekly formal program may not be as necessary to their personal spiritual growth as they once thought. I am guessing that a lot of us are really missing weekly fellowship with like-minded believers in Christ. I … Continue reading →

Covenant Marriage Ceremony?

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on November 5, 2019 by Steve DurkacNovember 5, 2019avatar

The Covenant Marriage Ceremony is a lot like a Vow Renewal ceremony in that it is all “in the eyes of God” rather than in the eyes of the state. With recent changes in state marriage laws I am now happy to offer a Covenant Marriage Ceremony for Christian brides and grooms who meet the requirements as listed below. The Covenant Marriage Ceremony is a “church” ceremony not a “civil” ceremony, it is a ceremony … Continue reading →

Asked to Officiate a Friend’s Ceremony?

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on September 13, 2019 by Steve DurkacSeptember 13, 2019avatar

Over the years I have officiated weddings along side a family member of friend whom the couple wanted involved in the ceremony, but who couldn’t officiate because of not being church ordained. Most of these individuals have been a godly family member or a friend who was active in their Christian church or was in the process of going to seminary. In all these weddings they were someone who the bride and groom recognized as … Continue reading →

Our Beginnings

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on May 16, 2019 by Steve DurkacMay 16, 2019avatar

Our church fellowship began on January 6, 2011, meeting on Sunday morning at a community room of a Ryan’s Restaurant on Rangeline Road near I-10 in Tillman’s Corner, Alabama. The manager allowed us to use the room at no cost if we ordered their buffet breakfast, which we did and enjoyed, but after several weeks we all seemed to have gotten our fill of that buffet. We moved our meetings to my house in West Mobile, … Continue reading →

I Was Once Adventist

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on August 21, 2018 by Steve DurkacAugust 21, 2018avatar

I was once a Seventh-day Adventist pastor. In 1999 I walked away from my pulpit as an Adventist minister. I spent 18 years of my adult life as a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, including serving as a pastor in both the Carolina Conference of SDA and the Gulf States Conference of SDA. At the time that I left the Adventist denomination I was going through an unwanted divorce, and although my conference president was gracious in seeking ways to preserve my ministry, I … Continue reading →

Prayer is the Answer

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on June 20, 2018 by Steve DurkacJune 20, 2018avatar

In 1994 I had assumed the pastorate of a church where I had the unusual opportunity to sit down with the outgoing pastor to discuss various issues of that congregation. As I was sitting with him in his office talking, he handed me his keys and said, “Oh, I almost forgot, each Wednesday at 11:00 AM you have a counseling session, here in this office, with Mrs. Redford.” Not her real name, but I did … Continue reading →

Salvation Over I-75

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on June 16, 2018 by Steve DurkacJune 16, 2018avatar

Pastor Steve Durkac’s Personal Testimony… I grew up as one of five adopted children and it was my story of adoption that most influenced my faith in Jesus as my personal Savior and here is how… As a teenager in the cold snowy, over-cast, small Northeast Ohio town of Rossford, during the heavy metal punk-rock era of the late 70’s, my life took a detour from what should have been a typical mid-America working class home … Continue reading →

A Sailboat

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on March 13, 2018 by Steve DurkacMarch 13, 2018avatar

When I left my pastorate with a church an Adventist church in Aiken, South Carolina in the 90’s, I was given a small gift of a marble and gold metal sailboat that read “A man that walks with God always gets to his destination.” It sat in my study on a shelf, from move to move, about 10 inches long and about 8 inches high. I’ve lost track of it in one of my last … Continue reading →

Observations for SDA’s

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on May 24, 2017 by Steve DurkacMay 24, 2017avatar

I have been out of the Seventh-day Adventist church almost as long as I was in the Seventh-day Adventist church. Since I have been among and ministering within non-Adventist churches, I have observed some things that I have always thought would be worth sharing with my Adventist friends. These are observations that I wish were shared with me when I was a SDA pastor.   Where these observations come from.. Immediately after leaving the SDA church I … Continue reading →
