Spiritual Investment
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” — 1 Timothy 4:8 NIV
The verse is contrasting putting our energy into a temporal earthly purpose vs putting our energy into an eternal spiritual purpose. There is value to doing things for temporal gain, like having a job for the paycheck or saving to purchase a car so you can get around town faster. However, the benefits of Heavenly pursuits will payoff in this life and the next.
Spiritual mindfulness will reward you by getting your heart right for Heaven, but it will also help you be a more likable person. When we invest in spiritual growth we advance in the areas of loving our neighbors and lose interest in hating them. We become more patient and discipline, and that means your less likely to become entangled in relationship conflicts or road rage incidents.
The crowning benefit of spiritual mindfulness is peace. Being at peace with God, being at peace with others, and being at peace with yourself. Being at peace with yourself includes making peace with your past so you can be at peace in the present and as you look toward the future.
