Facing the Unknown
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” — Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
Anxiety can often overtake us when we realize we are facing unknown territory. The thought of doing something different, being with a large group of people, or engaging in some activity that is new to us, can all summon up a crippling anxiety attack.
However, there is an alternative to rehearsing what we fear and that is meditating on this promise from God. Instead of worrying about the unknown, think about the promise of God being with you as you go through it. Redirect your mind to thinking about God being with you rather than the worse case scenarios.
Let’s remember, there is much to worry about in the world, but we don’t have to face them by ourselves. God is our companion in these situations.
