Gratitude and Philippians 4:6-7

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on December 8, 2020 by Steve DurkacDecember 8, 2020

This past Sunday I shared with you about Philippians 4:6-7 which states, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (NIV). I pointed out that this promise of God gives us the antidote to worry and it is gratefulness. When we are intentional … Continue reading →

Keeping Us From Evil

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on November 14, 2020 by Steve DurkacNovember 14, 2020

I’ve been thinking about Psalm 121:7-8, which says, “The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” This has been comforting to me because frankly my mind is conjuring up all kinds of evil that could be perpetrated against Bible believing Christians if the godless progressive politicians gain control of America. I … Continue reading →

Virus Fear and Our Want Of Safety

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on July 16, 2020 by Steve DurkacJuly 16, 2020

A few months ago I was of the opinion that the COVID-19 pandemic was going to subside come summer, but today I am thinking differently. We are half way through July and the COVID culture is ramping up its influence upon our lives. The media is obsessed with reporting cases, exploiting stories of its spread, and contradicting medical professionals who dare to tear apart the narrative of the political opportunists. There is a growing sense … Continue reading →

Coronavirus, Anxiety, and Hebrews 13:8

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on April 6, 2020 by Steve DurkacApril 6, 2020

It may not be the first Bible promise you have thought of when dealing with your coronavirus anxiety, but it is very applicable. Hebrews 13:8 states, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Consider this encouraging truth: the Lord Jesus Christ is the same today as He was during any other season of anxiety in your life and that ought to bring you a sense of hope. Remember when you thought … Continue reading →

1 Samuel 17:11 and Fear in the Camp?

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on March 19, 2020 by Steve DurkacMarch 19, 2020

You are familiar with the story of David and Goliath and today I want to point out the little known similarity to that account and our current coronovirus pandemic. It begins in 1 Samuel 17:11 where the Scriptures records that “Saul and all Israel…were dismayed, and greatly afraid.” The army of Israel and their King, Saul, were in fear over one soldier. For 40 days this pagan warrior intimidated God’s chosen because they were fixated … Continue reading →

2 Timothy 1:7 and Spirit of Fear

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on March 18, 2020 by Steve DurkacMarch 18, 2020

The Apostle Paul wrote these words to a fearful Timothy, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). I say fearful because Timothy was a young pastor who was dealing with some lack of confidence issues, criticism because his father was a Gentile, plus he had some false teachers stirring up trouble among the flock, and one could also … Continue reading →

A New Year, Again

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on January 1, 2019 by Steve DurkacJanuary 1, 2019

Someone once said, “A birth of a baby is God’s way of saying the world must go on.” I don’t know who said that or why that has stuck in my memory, but there is some truth to that. If God really decides that we should no longer “be fruitful and multiply” He could certainly shut the womb of every women across the globe to send that message, couldn’t He? Obviously God has a date and … Continue reading →

Fear at Christmas

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on December 24, 2018 by Steve DurkacDecember 24, 2018

Christmas time is nearly always portrayed in the media as a happy, positive, encouraging season but that is simply not always the case. The good news is that our God knows that. When the sun sets tonight and it’s Christmas Eve, some will be filled with emptiness, loneliness, and grief. Christmas Eve is often the accumulation of weeks of fearful anticipation of just that. It’s time to see what it is to experience Christmas without … Continue reading →

Political Fear

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on July 29, 2017 by Steve DurkacJuly 29, 2017

There is no question, from a Christian perspective, that America has gone through a recent period of leadership that has trampled on our religious freedom. Much of the harmful effects of elevating social ideologies over civil security and sexuality above religious liberty are still in place through regulations and the evil intents of those in positions of power at all levels of our society. The recent presidential election, as odd as it was, provided some … Continue reading →

Merry Christmas!

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on December 24, 2016 by Steve DurkacDecember 24, 2016

My favorite verse from the Christmas story is found in Luke 2:10 where the angel said to fearful shepherds, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people” (ESV). Recently I was part of a conversation where those present were bemoaning the problems that 2016 brought our world. They also expressed their hope in a better 2017. I didn’t say it, but my thoughts wondered … Continue reading →

No Lives Matter…

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on July 8, 2016 by Steve DurkacJuly 8, 2016

No lives matter to Satan and his followers. Those who follow him may not walk around conscientiously declaring their allegiance to satanic forces, but their own behavior declares it. John 10:10 tells us that Satan is not interested in tolerance, peace, or our pursuit of happiness. Satan is out “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” while Jesus has come “that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” So how should … Continue reading →

Troubles Are Not The End

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on June 28, 2016 by Steve DurkacJune 28, 2016

When we signed up for the Christian life, we weren’t given a bubble to protect us from the pains and problems of the world around us. Being a believer in Jesus Christ doesn’t exempt us from the troubles of being human and being in a sinful world. As believers we may handle troubles differently and at least have a different perspective as we work through those troubles. I like the way the Apostle Paul put it … Continue reading →

Follow-up on John 6:16-21

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on June 26, 2016 by Steve DurkacJune 26, 2016

Here are a few follow-up thoughts from Sunday morning’s teaching on John 6:16-21 when Jesus walked on water… • Here are the verses that I had on the flip chart dealing with facing fear (remember that if you view this post on the website you can simply hold your mouse pointer over the the text reference and a small window will open so you can read the verses): Deuteronomy 31:6; Psalm 27:1; Psalm 118:6; Proverbs 3:25-26; … Continue reading →

Facing Fearful Times?

Pastor Steve Durkac Posted on November 18, 2015 by Steve DurkacNovember 18, 2015

Here are three verses to mediate on when you are facing fearful times for whatever the circumstance is… “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my … Continue reading →
