Guarding the Heart
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23 NIV
We often talk of the heart as the seat of emotions or attraction. A couple speak of falling in love as the other stealing their heart. Our endearment to something is explained as a heartfelt experience.
We must guard what we allow our hearts to get exposed to because we have limited capacity to how much we can actually love. Once our heart is set on something, our whole being gets behind it to make it a reality in our life.
A life that is best lived is one that has focused on success with a few things, rather than a mediocre relationship with many things. We guard our hearts because it saves us from burning-out in meaninglessness instead of staying focused and meaningful for others.
