Word Power
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” — Proverbs 18:21 NIV
The old saying that sticks and stones may hurt but not words is wrong. Words have a weird way of getting under our skin if they are critical. Hurtful words leave us emotionally troubled. They stick, they last longer, and their haunting tones tear down our confidence and self esteem.
On the other hand, words meant to encourage or cheer another on have a powerful effect that inspires and fuels another’s joy and positivity.
Let’s remember to choose words that uplift, not tear down, when we find ourselves in conversations with others.
